Midtjylland striker damns Manchester United’s efforts in Europa League loss

Didn't try a leg

Kevin McGillicuddy

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that he’s  probably right.

Manchester United fans, and players, will probably need a bit of time to get over last night’s 2-1 loss to FC Midtjylland, but at least it’s Friday.

Louis van Gaal’s side suffered a shock result in the Europa League, and to compound his misery, he should know in the next 24 hours the extent of a knee injury picked up by David de Gea in the warm-up.

Teams from Denmark do have some pedigree in beating English sides, and especially those from Manchester of course.

And perhaps an alarming lack of respect, or preparation, was the cause of Louis van Gaal’s downfall last night.

That certainly seems to be the opinion of Ebere Paul Onuachu, who grabbed the all important second goal for the hosts in a famous win.

The Nigerian spoke on BT after the game and told reporters that he was disappointed in how poor Manchester United were on the night.

“I think I expected more from them but we gave them what they didn’t expect. We gave our best and got the result.”

There’s no disagreeing with that assessment is there.
