Chelsea’s outrageous demand blocks Spurs move but Batshuayi off to Palace

Simon Lloyd

The Belgium striker might yet leave Chelsea on deadline day.

Michy Batshuayi has reportedly agreed terms with Crystal Palace and is set to complete a loan move to Selhurst Park  for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old returned to Chelsea last month after spending the first half of the season on loan in Spain with Valencia.  Having also been loaned out to Borussia Dortmund towards the end of the 2017/18 campaign, it was expected he would leave Stamford Bridge again before the end of the current transfer window.

The Mirror’s Darren Lewis claimed on Thursday evening that the Belgian wanted to move to Tottenham, though Chelsea’s extortionate loan fee demands of £8m – more than four times the amount they had quoted Real Betis and West Ham earlier in the month – had scuppered any hopes of a deal being done between the two London rivals.

Shortly after this, Steve Parish confirmed to Sky Sports News that Batshuayi was expected to complete a deal with Palace.

Batshuayi managed three goals in his time at Valencia this season. He has also scored four times for his national team.
