Michael Owen slated for opinion on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s movement for Manchester United

“He just stands a lot!"

Michael Owen is a difficult man to please.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s six goals in ten games for Manchester United have quickly justified Jose Mourinho’s bold decision to give a striker approaching his 35th birthday a starting place for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Many reluctant critics believed Ibrahimovic’s recent successes for Paris Saint-Germain were down to Ligue 1’s lack of competitiveness.

But the Swedish giant has taken to the English game like a burly duck to water and wasted no time in making a splash with his goal spree.

Ibrahimovic’s most recent came in the Europa League, where he got some hard-earned points on the board for the Red Devils with a second-half header that guaranteed a victory over little-known Zorya Luhansk on Thursday night.

But former United forward Michael Owen, who was covering the game for BT Sport, has slammed Ibrahimovic for his lack of mobility in the box.

“His movement disappoints me a bit,” Owen said.

“He just stands a lot. Because of his height he gets away with it.

“There was no movement from him. He just tends to stand at the back post and wait for the ball. There were a few crosses tonight and he stayed in the same position.”

Suffice to say that not many were in agreement with Owen’s dismissive analysis.
