Michael Owen’s ranking of Kevin de Bruyne has upset some Manchester United fans

That was never going to go down well

Michael Owen seems hell bent on turning his former fans against him.

On several occasions over the years, Liverpool supporters voiced their anger about comments made by their ex-striker and moved to distance themselves from Owen.

Owen, who is an international ambassador for Liverpool, spoke with great affection of his time as a Manchester United player and that did not sit well with fans of the Merseyside club.

The Anfield faithful have wanted him removed from his ambassadorial role for some time – having established a petition last year and now United fans have lost their patience with Owen after his recent comments about some of his former teammates at Old Trafford.

While praising the passing ability of in-form Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, Owen placed the Belgian above Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, as well as David Beckham, in his list of the Premier League’s greatest ever passers of the ball.

“De Bruyne, Scholes, Giggs, Beckham would be my order,” Owen said.

“Scholesy had great vision. Not only could he play a ball, but he had great vision.

“Giggs probably didn’t have the long range ping in his locker like a Beckham or a Scholes, but had unbelievable vision.

“Great vision.”

While there’s no denying the fact that De Bruyne is enjoying an incredible season and most neutrals would agree that he’s front-runner for the Player of the Season award, United fans didn’t hesitate to make their opinions known with regards to Owen’s claims.
