Poor old Michael Owen takes an awful battering at times.
Last night, the former Liverpool striker took to social media to congratulate 17-year-old Ben Woodburn for becoming the club’s youngest ever goalscorer.
Woodburn scored the Reds’ second in a 2-0 EFL Cup win over Leeds United at Anfield. at 17 years and 45 days, he surpassed the goalscoring record that was previously held by Owen [17 years, 145 days].
Owen was quick to give the teenager credit for the feat:
Another record taken from me!!! Congratulations @BenWoodburn on becoming the youngest ever scorer for @LFC at 17yrs and 45days. #KopEnd

Unfortunately though, given Owen’s time spent with Manchester United and Newcastle United, the response was less than favourable.
In fact, it was downright nasty.
Rightly so! Your name doesn't deserve to be anywhere near LFC folklore. Hard to see which club will glorify you. #JourneyMan
