Mauricio Pochettino ends speculation by signing Tottenham contract extension

What's a contract though, really?

Good news, Spurs fans – your manager isn’t going anywhere.

So, it would seem, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was just having lunch and Uefa-based coaching chats with Alex Ferguson after all.

The Argentine coach has led the London club back into the Champions League, taking Spurs to the brink of a top two finish playing an attractive brand of football, and fans will be delighted to learn he has extended his deal until 2021.

Pochettino led Spurs to a fifth-place finish after arriving from Southampton before the start of last season, and has given debuts to fan favourites Eric Dier and Dele Alli.

He had been linked with a move to Chelsea before the appointment of Antonio Conte, while Manchester United were also rumoured to be interested in the Argentine.

However, the new, long-term deal should end speculation of that ilk.

Supporters have taken to Twitter to express their delight at the news.

Some have taken note of the new job title held by the former Espanyol boss, even if it’s only symbolic.

Of course, there are still some sceptics.
