Would the real Matt Doherty please stand up?
Matt Doherty had a pretty damn good start to the weekend, but it was almost ruined.
The Dubliner started for Wolves in their Championship tie away to Ipswich Town. Interestingly, Doherty was pitted against Mick McCarthy’s team, the manager who brought him to the Molineux Stadium from Bohemians in 2010 for a bargain price of £75,000.
It took just 15 minutes for Doherty to remind McCarthy why he signed him. After some excellent team passing, a beautiful backheel pass found Barry Douglas. Behind the last line of defence, Douglas knocked a high cross back into the box.
Doherty was there to meet it and direct it goalwards. Well done Doherty.

Well, the problem is a lot of people didn’t actually know that Doherty scored initially.
Wires were clearly crossed as Portuguese winger Ivan Cavaleiro was credited with the finish. This is despite the fact that he couldn’t possibly look less like Doherty. Cavaleiro also wears number seven, rather than Doherty’s two on his shirt and shorts.
Everywhere from Sky Sports News to the BBC marked the goal down for Cavaleiro, before seeing the error of their ways.
Fans saw the funny side on Twitter. A lot of folks hit up the likes of Stelling, Sky and the BBC to let them know they had made an embarrassing mistake.
Wolves were good sports about it too. Their Twitter account sent out a solid gag about the whole situation.
