Let’s hope Martin Odegaard doesn’t do a Freddy Adu.
The Norwegian wonderkid hasn’t set the world alight since joining Real Madrid.
Odegaard had just turned 16 when he signed for the La Liga giants for €3m in January 2015 from Strømsgodset in his native Norway, after been scouted by almost every top club in Europe.
The youngster was considered to have the potential to become one of the best players in the world, and that might still come to fruition. However, a substitute appearance for Cristiano Ronaldo in May 2015 aside, Odegaard has spent his time in Madrid in the club’s second and third teams.
And just last month, Carlo Ancelotti said the 17-year-old was signed as a public relations exercise by the club’s president Florentino Perez.
With no chance of working his way into Madrid’s first-team this season, the club are prepared to send Odegaard out on-loan, according to Marca.
The Spanish media outlet claim that the club and Odegaard’s father feel that the player needs first-team football to continue his progression.
Madrid have suggested sending him to a lower league Spanish club, but the midfielder would prefer a move to the German Bundesliga.
The player, if he’s still with the club, will join Madrid’s first-team in Montreal later this month for the beginning of pre-season.
