Report: Marouane Fellaini isn’t one of the four players Jose Mourinho wants to sell

Robert Redmond

Marouane Fellaini’s critics might say he wasn’t good enough to play three games for Manchester United.

But the much-maligned Belgian will play soon play under his third Manchester United manager.

A favourite of Louis van Gaal, for his ability to follow direct instructions and be tall, Fellaini was considered amongst those primed to be cut from Jose Mourinho’s squad for the upcoming season.

A report from The Daily Mail earlier this week also claimed that the midfielder wasn’t among the 24 players the new United manager wants to work with this season.

However, according to Duncan Castles, Fellaini’s time at Old Trafford isn’t over yet.

The journalist, who has strong links with Mourinho, has written a series of articles on Mourinho’s plans for United this season in Scottish newspaper The Daily Record.

In Sunday’s edition, he claimed that Mourinho plans to sell Marcos Rojo, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Daley Blind and Juan Mata, but wants to retain Fellaini because he “can operate in multiple positions, offering height, physicality and experience.”

This appears to contradict Mourinho’s recent claims, of wanting specialists for positions. However, Castles appears to be well placed on the thoughts of the United manager.

Memphis Depay, Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, Antonio Valencia, Guillermo Varela, James Wilson and Ashley Young are the others who reportedly face uncertain futures at Old Trafford.
