OK, so let’s take a look at Marouane Fellaini’s Manchester United career.
David Moyes employed him as a holding midfielder for the majority of the 2013/14 season and it was an unmitigated disaster that had United fans crying for him to be shown the exit door at the end of the campaign.
When Louis van Gaal arrived, the towering Belgian was reinvented and enjoyed a fruitful season as a target man who could cause mayhem for defences at set-pieces and hold up play for supporting runners.
But Fellaini doesn’t see his future as an attacking force for the Red Devils. Rather, he feels he could be the solution for the holding midfield issue at Old Trafford.
“I see myself as a defensive midfielder,” he said. “I feel comfortable playing there and if the manager decides he wants to play me there, I will.
“At the moment I play more up front, so it’s good for me.
“I score goals so in football it’s important.
“I’m happy to play there and win some important games.”
Thoughts, United fans?
