Marko Grujic’s move to Liverpool had looked like a done deal, but it may have hit a snag for the strangest of reasons.

Serbian star Grujic was expected to come to England for a medical ahead of joining the Reds in the summer, but his dad has reportedly confiscated his passport.

Despite Liverpool agreeing a £5.1million fee for the Under-20 World Cup winner, Grujic senior seems convinced that the move will “ruin” his son, so he’s taking things into his own hands.

during the FIFA U-20 World Cup Final match between Brazil and Serbia at North Harbour Stadium on June 20, 2015 in Auckland, New Zealand.

“The passport is with me, and Marko is not going anywhere,” Goran Grujic is reported to have told Serbian newspaper Blic.

“You see that none of our young players survived there. Bojan Djordjic, Milos Veljkovic, Adem Ljajic, Zoran Tosic, Lazar Markovic, Danilo Pantic… do I need to continue to list them?” he added.

Former Manchester United prospects Djordjic and Tosic left before playing 10 Premier League games, while Liverpool midfielder Markovic has been sent out on loan after just one season at Anfield.

He wants his son to win another title with Red Star Belgrade at the very least, noting that Serbian success stories Nemanja Vidic and Branislav Ivanovic arrived as experienced players.
