It’s been a hectic few hours for the Carrigaline native, as he joined another club on loan this morning.

Mark O’Mahoney secured a major milestone in his professional career last night by scoring his first senior goal on Tuesday night, helping Brighton through to the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 star came on as a substitute to score the fourth goal in Brighton’s 4-0 win over Crawley Town,

The 19-year-old, who has made three Premier League appearances so far for Brighton, then signed with Championship side Portsmouth on loan on Wednesday morning.

According to Football Insider, O’Mahoney passed a medical at Portsmouth and agreed terms with the club earlier today.

The Corkman joined Brighton from Cork City in January 2023 on a four-year contract and made his Premier League debut during a 1-1 draw with Burnley in April 2024.

A move to Fratton Park should earn him more regular game time.

Elsewhere in last night’s Carabao Cup second round, Sean Dyche handed Jake O’Brien a full debut in Everton’s 3-0 win over Doncaster with Ireland skipper Seamus Coleman also completing a full 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, another Irish striker at Brighton could also be on the move.

Evan Ferguson is also on the radar of Arsenal and Man City, who are both looking to sign a centre-forward before the transfer window closes on Friday, August 30.

Man City are looking to sign a striker to be a backup for Erling Haaland after Julian Alvarez left the club to join Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have used Kai Havertz as a false nine, with Gabriel Jesus failing to fully convince as a centre-forward. The Gunners are also aiming to sell striker Eddie Nketiah before the window closes.

Ferguson reportedly could be a loan target for the Premier League’s top two teams.
