Marco Reus has been fined €540,000 for driving without a licence for three years

That's a fine nobody wants the week before Christmas

Jurgen Klopp may have given Marco Reus the creative licence to drive at defences at will but, for the past three years, the German international has been missing another licence. A driving licence.

According to German newspaper Bild, the Borussia Dortmund playmaker has been fined over half a million euro due to the fact that Reus has never taken the test for a driving licence.

The German international has accrued a total of five speeding tickets since 2011 yet, somehow, police never discovered the winger’s lack of a licence.

The fine seems quite substantial but it is based on a system of “90 Tagessätze” meaning 90 daily rates that are worked out based on the specific circumstances of each citizen.

According to an article in German magazine Focus,  the 25-year-old explained that he took driving lessons when he was 18 but never actually got to the point of taking the test but, when no repercussions came of it, he just let it happen.

He said: “I then unfortunately decided to go that route. I can not comprehend the reasons even today.”

The fact that Reus currently earns a weekly wage of around €65,000 means that the fine adds up to roughly seven weeks of work so it’s no wonder that the winger is angling for a move away from Dortmund where he will earn upwards of €200,000.

Word of advice Sparky, whether it’s England or Spain you go to, get a bloody licence this time.
