Manuel Neuer sticks the boot into Arsenal with brief Facebook post

It was a holiday

SportsJOE

Arsenal, in case you missed it, didn’t have a great time of things in Bavaria last Wednesday night.

Yet again paired with Bayern Munich for the last 16 of the Champions League, the Gunners turned a promising 1-1 halftime scoreline into an embarrassing 5-1 defeat.

Sure, there’s a second leg to come, but we can safely say that any hopes of Arsenal reaching the quarter finals are already as good as dead.

Of all the Bayern players to have faced Arsenal that night, Manuel Neuer had one of the simpler tasks. Although he was called into action a few times in the first half, the German international was largely untroubled in the second 45 as he watched a Laurent Koscielny-less Arsenal defence leak four tie-ending goals.

Returning to league action at the weekend, Bayern couldn’t follow their hammering of Arsenal with a win against Hertha Berlin. In fact, they very nearly lost it: Robert Lewandowski’s equaliser came in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Taking to his Facebook page, Neuer’s comparison of the two games doesn’t make great reading for those that hold Arsenal close to their hearts, with the goalkeeper describing the game against them as a holiday.

“After the holiday last Wednesday, yesterday was again a hard-working day,” Neuer said.

The second leg (for what it’s worth) takes place on March 7.
