Arsene Wenger rarely invests in players over the age of 30, but reports claim he could make an exception for Michael Carrick.
The Manchester United midfielder is out of contract in the summer, and the Sunday Express claim Arsenal are involved in a multi-way battle for the England international.
But the London club will face competition from Carrick’s hometown club Newcastle United, where he could link up with former England boss Steve McClaren, while clubs from the Chinese Super League are also reportedly keen.
It would not be the first time Arsenal have moves for an unlikely player from United – Wenger took Mikael Silvestre off Sir Alex Ferguson’s hands back in 2008.
Carrick is closing in on a decade at Old Trafford, having joined from Spurs in the summer of 2006, but the club seems ready to allow him to leave for free when his contract runs out.
