Manchester United vs Real Madrid’s pre-game antics will make you despair for football

Ben Kiely

RIP football.

Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara played host to a pre season friendly between Manchester United and Real Madrid on Sunday.

The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Eric Bailly togged out for the Red Devils while Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Luca Modric and Marcelo played for Los Blancos.

Marouane Fellaini started in United’s midfield and for the first time in a long time, he wasn’t the most ridiculous afro-haired gentleman on the pitch. That accolade fell to Ronald McDonald.

We shit you not.

Ronald fuckin’ McDonald

It got off to a grim start. In fact, it felt more like the funeral for football than an American showcase of the best Europe has to offer to the beautiful game.

Ignoring the red-nosed, fast-food selling elephant on the pitch was pretty much impossible.

Although the United players did a fairly decent job of blanking him while shaking hands with the officials before kick-off.

We’re not lovin’ it, America. We’re not lovin’ it at all.
