Manchester United to battle Napoli in race to sign Kieran Trippier

Manchester United will reportedly try to sign Kieran Trippier from Tottenham Hotspur this summer as they look to replace departing captain Antonio Valencia

He’s going to live off that free kick for the rest of his life, isn’t he

As the Premier League season winds down and clubs look ahead to next season, the transfer rumours are coming thick and fast. Some of them are ridiculous, some of them much more feasible, and some of them seem ridiculous but are actually quite likely. Exhibit A: Manchester United are interested in signing Kieran Trippier from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

This story, which I personally cannot understand because United want to improve and Trippier… isn’t very good, comes from the famously well-informed Gianluca Di Marzio, who also reports that Napoli are keen to take the right-back off Spurs’ hands.

Trippier’s market value peaked last summer after an impressive World Cup during which he provided a constant flow of crosses for Harry Kane and scored a free-kick against Croatia in the semi-final, which has apparently asked a poor season at club level.

At the age of 28, Trippier won’t get any better. It seems like the right time for Spurs to offload the full-back and replace him with another rough diamond for Pochettino to polish, like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who United should probably be going for.
