Manchester United set to miss out on late deal for Mathieu Debuchy

Bullet dodged?

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Mathieu Debuchy appear to be dead in the water.

With Louis van Gaal missing a number of full backs through injury, reports earlier on Deadline Day suggested that United were plotting an unlikely move for the Arsenal man.

Debuchy, who has not been able to hold down his place in the Arsenal team since coming back from injury, is desperate for first team football so he can force his way into the France squad for this summer’s European Championships.

So desperate in fact that the Frenchman was said to be even considering joining Aston Villa.

That was until United entered the running, but reports in the UK suggest that Arsene Wenger blocked any potential deal with Van Gaal’s side

It is now expected that Debuchy will return to his native France, with Bordeaux said to be close to completing a deal.
