Report: Manchester United won’t sell David de Gea unless they get Sergio Ramos

This is going to get messy, isn't it?

Are Manchester United willing to cut off their nose to spite their face?

The Guardian have reported today that the club are prepared to allow David de Gea to leave on a free-transfer next summer, if they Real Madrid don’t sell them Sergio Ramos during this transfer window.

De Gea, who has 12 months left on his deal, and has long been linked with a transfer to the Bernabeu, is due back in Manchester on Monday for pre-season training. And, if things remains as they are, he’ll be part of the squad to travel to the United States for a series of pre-season games on July 13th.

Despite both players seemingly hoping to leave their respective clubs, there’s been no movement on the transfers. Ramos has reportedly told Madrid he wants to leave the club, and will only sign for United. While it’s an open secret that De Gea would rather live in his native Madrid.

You can’t take pictures like this on a rainy Tuesday night in Stoke.

United have reportedly offered €40 million for Ramos, while Madrid will have to offer more than the paltry €18 million they informally bid for De Gea.

Are United prepared to lose De Gea for nothing? Or is this an attempt to force Real’s hand?

Either way, it looks like both players will begin pre-season at their current clubs.
