In fairness, it probably won’t take a lot to derail the tricky episode.
Coronation Street will slug it out with the might Manchester United for it’s highly-anticipated live episode on Wednesday evening.
To commemorate ITV’s 60th anniversary, the long-running soap is staging a special live episode, starting at 7:30pm on ITV 1.
However, Manchester United’s League Cup tie against Ipswich is due to kick off 15 minutes into the episode and it could spoil the party.
Coronation Street producers are reportedly worried that the crowd noise from match will be so loud that it could be heard during the special landmark episode. Considering that Old Trafford is located just half-a-mile down the road from Corrie’s new studios at Trafford Wharf, Salford, it may be a legitimate concern.
Over 70,000 roaring fans are expected to attend the match and the culture of football fans hollering colourful chants apparently has the Corrie producers sweating.
A show source told the Daily Mirror:
“No one could believe it when it dawned on them what was happening. There has been a great deal of black humour around the place.”
“Everyone is crossing their fingers and everything else in the hope United do not score in the first half an hour.”
However, insiders have “played down the fears” by insisting that all the sets at the studio are sound-proofed. A claim which will undoubtedly be tested during the live episode.
