Fresh from helping United to a 3-0 thumping of Liverpool on Sunday, Ander Herrera’s name has popped up in a Valencia court today.
Spain’s anti-corruption prosecutor has filed a case following a probe into a La Liga match in the 2010-11 season between Real Zaragoza and Levante.
The game, which Zaragoza won 2-1, meant that they avoided relegation and United’s Herrera and Atletico Madrid captain Gabi were both playing for the club at the time.
A total of 41 people between players, coaches and the former Zaragoza president have been named as defendants in the prosecutor’s court filing which alleged that the Levante players were paid a total of €965,000 in cash to deliberately lose the game.
The report suggests that Zaragoza made bank transfers to its players – including Herrera and Gabi – who then took the money out of their accounts and passed it onto the Levante players in cash.
