Manchester United made a stunning £139m bid for Neymar this summer

This eclipses the Martial deal...

We know United were ready to spend big over the summer.

The big wigs at Old Trafford were gagging for a big money, marquee signing through the doors.

United ended up dropping a sh*t load of cash on 19-year-old Anthony Martial – a deal which could eventually rise to £58m.

But even this mega deal could have been blown out of the water.

Spanish paper Sport say the Red Devils were intent on absolutely smashing United’s record transfer fee to try and land Barcelona forward Neymar.

The paper report that United made an incredible bid of £139million for Neymar, and were ready to pay him £280,000 a week to leave the Nou Camp.

“United phoned Barcelona and got the answer that Neymar has a contract and is not for sale, Neymar Snr told Sport.

“Everyone is calm. Neymar still has three years on his deal.

“We are happy. Neymar chose to play here and he is super-happy in Barcelona.

“You can see that. We know that Barcelona is different: It’s not just about winning, but convincing and playing well.

“That’s where you find the greatness of this club.”
