The search for a replacement has already started.

As Real Madrid once again ramp up their intentions to add Davd de Gea to their ranks in the summer, it seems Manchester United are planning ahead with goalkeeping contingencies, should the Iberian guardian choose to return to his home town in Spain.

The Atletico Madrid alum has made no bones about his desire to go to Real in the past, and at 26 years of age, many feel his departure following the season’s end is something of a formality. Certainly Jose Mourinho is not one to react after the event to situations that he can clearly foresee.

With this in mind, the wily Portuguese is already busy identifying potential replacements, and it seems both his preferred options currently ply their trade in Milan. Although the candidates are two very different propositions – and the age difference of a whopping 14 years.

According to the Independent, Mourinho will either opt for experience and reliability in Internazionale’s Samir Handanovic, or go balls out in an attempt to prize Milan wonderkid Gianluigi Donnarumma from the San Siro. At 32 and 18 years of age respectively, it’s an interesting choice.

Handanovic has been linked to various Premier League clubs in recent years, including Liverpool and Manchester City, whereas it would surely take a king’s random to prize Donnarumma from the Rossoneri, given his astounding composure for someone so young.

Of course United fans would love De Gea to remain at Old Trafford, but they can rest assured that he will replaced with real quality if he were to leave for Spain.
