Manchester United fans are not happy that David de Gea was denied the Golden Glove by his own player

Manchester United completed a thoroughly underwhelming Premier League campaign with a 3 1 win victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday night, securing 5th place and a Europa League spot.

Marcus Rashford added another goal to his impressive tally, and his form will undoubtedly be seen as the most positive thing to come out of a season that has seen many of his more experienced teammates struggle to retain such consistency.

Captain Wayne Rooney also turned in a Man of the Match-winning performance from his new midfield role, netting his 100th goal at Old Trafford to open the scoring just before half-time. Ashley Young grabbed the third United goal in the 87th minute.

All in all it was a comfortable night for the Red Devils, but a last minute own goal from Chris Smalling means the Golden Glove will go to Arsenal’s Petr Cech, rather than David De Gea, who he otherwise would have shared it with.

Bournemouth were afforded a fortunate ricochet in the dying seconds of the match and Smalling, facing his own goal, diverted it past his Spanish teammate.

It was a moment of bad luck for Smalling, but United fans who are desperate to see their star goalkeeper remain in Manchester weren’t too happy.
