Bastian Schweinsteiger’s pre-match tweet broke a lot of Manchester United fans’ hearts

Poor guy

Darragh Murphy

What a fall from grace.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has gone from lifting World Cup and Champions League trophies to timidly asking for his photo to be taken in the stands.

It’s been made abundantly clear by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho that the veteran midfielder is not in his thoughts whatsoever but, being a class act, Schweinsteiger continues to show unconditional support for the Red Devils.

The 32-year-old was forced to watch Wednesday evening’s EFL Cup clash with Manchester City from the stands but asked for his picture to be taken prior to kick-off so that he could wish his teammates good luck.

In spite of his treatment, Schweinsteiger has never been anything but a shining example of how footballers should behave and seeing him reduced to such a non-role left many United supporters feeling very sorry for him.

And we’re sure a tear or two was shed.
