Fans of a certain age will recall Liverpool’s glory days of the 70s and 80s. Back then, Man United were experiencing a drought of success, only satiated by the occasional cup win.
Whilst their Scouse neighbours were winning titles at home and abroad, domestic supremacy eluded the Red Devils. In fact, they went a whopping 26 years without a league title between 1967 and 1993.
Of course they were mocked mercilessly by the Anfield faithful for their continued failure.
Fast-forward to the present day, and mainly thanks to Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United have overtaken Liverpool by being crowned English champions a record 20 times.
In fact, Liverpool’s gap without a league champions’ trophy is on the verge of exceeding the 26 years that United had to wait. And, well, the Mancs are making the most of it.
They’ve even created an online countdown for the exact moment when the duration of Scouse pain exceeds that of their own.
With the number of titles at Old Trafford stuck on twenty since 2013, and no sign of them adding to that figure, some may refer to glass houses and stones…
