Last week, we all became instant experts on Axel Tuanzebe. This week, we’re frantically reading up on Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
For today’s visit of West Brom to Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal promoted another teenage defender to his Manchester United matchday squad.
While Tuanzebe featured on the bench for the 0-0 draw Crystal Palace he loses out to 18-year-old Borthwick-Jackson for today’s game.
With the likes of Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw out of action, the Dutchman is giving the next generation a taste of the senior squad.
With 76 minutes gone and United leading The Baggies 1-0, Borthwick-Jackson replaced Marcos Rojo for his senior debut.

There had been an injury blow for United as Marouane Fellaini was ruled out. On the flip side, Morgan Schneiderlin was back in the squad.
Borthwick-Jackson, who is a left back, played for England U17 in the past and was part of the United squad that contested the FA Youth Cup last season. This season, he has lined out in United sides coached by both Nicky Butt [U19] and Warren Joyce [U21].
The Manchester native is described as ‘elegant on the ball but a strong tackler’ in his club profile and featured in the youth side’s successful Milk Cup run in 2013.
Borthwick-Jackson made his U21 debut at the tender age of 16. Earlier this year, Joyce commented, “Cameron has been excellent really this season. He has gone from strength to strength.”
