Desperate times call for desperate measures and Louis van Gaal doesn’t have too many more straws to clutch.
Manchester United’s squad have arrived in Germany for their crucial Champions league with Wolfsburg tomorrow night and there’s a forgotten man aboard the plane.
United need a win to ensure their place in the last 16, and with Anthony Martial out of form and Wayne Rooney injured, the club have called up Nick Powell to the first-team squad for the first time in 16 months.
The midfielder last featured the club in their Capital One Cup loss last season to MK Dons and has featured just seven times for the club in the entirety of his career.
Powell is unlikely to actually start the game unless LvG has seen something no one else has, but at least fans are supporting the former Crewe man’s return to the top table.

Nice to see Nick Powell in #mufc first team squad again, although Warren Joyce told me last week he was "nowhere near fully fit"

Nick Powell's last European outing for #mufc was in 2012, glad to see the progress he's making after returning from injury.

The last incident of note in Powell’s career was this goal for the Manchester United Under-21s against Liverpool.
