We all know that Liverpool and Manchester United have wasted a fortune in the transfer market over the last couple of years, but rarely is it put so simply.
This tweet from Times journalist Tony Barrett sums up the excessive squandering at Anfield and Old Trafford, with £700m spent between the two clubs over the last three years and very little to show for it.

Despite Chelsea’s struggles in the first four matches, it’s widely regarded that Jose Mourinho’s side will duke it out with Manchester City for the title again this season, with Arsenal occupying third place.
That leaves United and Liverpool once again battling for the final Champions League spot – a sorry state of affairs considering the money they’ve invested to overhaul their squads.
