Manchester City’s stadium evacuated ahead of visit of Barcelona

Plenty of fans would have been on their way to the ground

Darragh Murphy

For the second time in six months, a stadium in Manchester has been evacuated.

On Tuesday afternoon, three hours before kick-off in Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Barcelona, the Etihad stadium was evacuated.

Staff and supporters were told to leave the stadium while no reason, at the time of writing, was given by the club.

In May, Manchester United’s home game with Bournemouth was postponed when the bomb squad was called in to dispose of a suspect package, which turned out to be a leftover piece of equipment from a security training exercise.

More on the Etihad as we have it.
