Jack Byrne has signed a new three year contract with Manchester City.
The 19 year old Dubliner put pen to paper earlier today, and has been a key part of Patrick Vieira’s Elite Development Squad, but will now hope to break into the first-team squad.

However, Byrne’s joy at signing a new contract is somewhat bittersweet, as today is the eight anniversary of his father’s death
The midfielder was only speaking earlier this month about how settled he feels at City. “There was a real family feel with City, they always treated me really well. Plus, there was a real buzz about the place after the takeover.”
“I always liked City and they made me and my family feel really welcome.”
Byrne was previously compared to Paul Scholes by Vieira, and was City’s top scorer, scoring six goals, during last season’s UEFA Youth League.
But the midfielder says he’s yet to fully define his playing style.
“People have said I’m best in a more attacking role because I’ve been able to score a few goals in that position, especially in the Champions League games,” Byrne said.
“But then I’d say my passing is one of the strongest parts of my game so I like playing a bit further back as well.”
“I wouldn’t say I have one set position but I’m not worried by that.”
Hopefully Jack can make the breakthrough for City and Ireland over the next few years.
