Manchester City are furious about Chelsea’s first major signing of the summer

City are not happy with Napoli

It’s been a busy 24 hours for Chelsea supporters.

Confirmation arrived on Friday afternoon that the club had parted ways with Antonio Conte and his replacement was announced the very next day. Maurizio Sarri was unveiled as the Blues’ new head coach on a three-year deal and it didn’t take long for him to bring one of his top players at Napoli with him. Just a few hours after Sarri was confirmed, Chelsea revealed that they’d signed Jorginho from the Serie A side.

Jorginho was a top target for Manchester City and it looked for all the world that the midfielder would be headed to the Etihad ahead of the upcoming season until Chelsea elbowed their way into negotiations.

According to the Manchester Evening News, City are furious about how things played out as they feel Napoli bullied the 26-year-old into moving to Stamford Bridge.

Pep Guardiola was of the belief that a £44m fee had been agreed for Jorginho two weeks ago and that personal terms had been ironed out between the club and player.

City claim that Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, did not do enough to stand up to Napoli’s tactics and have accused the Italian side of basically threatening to force the player to see out his contract in Naples if he didn’t agree to move to Chelsea.

The Premier League champions attempted to salvage the deal but refused to match Chelsea’s £53m offer, having established a policy whereby they do not bend to meet valuations of players with which they don’t agree.
