While the man known only as Souleymane S didn’t understand the chants, he knew they were racially motivated
By know you will surely have seen the sickening scenes from Paris on Tuesday night when a group of Chelsea fans first prevented a black man from getting onto a Metro train before then singing a song saying ‘We’re racist and that is the way we like it’.
The incident has been widely condemned and today’s newspapers in England have started to identify some of the men responsible. However, in France, Le Parisien have spoken to the man who was at the receieving end of the vile abuse. Known only as Souleymane S, the 33-year-old Paris native tells the paper that he wasn’t that surprised at the incident as he ‘lives with racism’.
He also says he didn’t understand the song the men were singing, but he knew it was racially motivated. And he has called for strong action to be taken against those involved.
“These people, these English fans, need to be found and punished, and should be locked up,” he said. “What happened should not go unpunished.”
After seeing the video, he has decided to file a police report while police in the UK are also understood to be looking into the incident.
Souleymane, who is a father to three children, explained the motivation behind his decision to take a stand. “What could I tell my children? That daddy was shoved around on the Metro because he is black?”
