United have reportedly made a significant bid
Manchester United appear to have stepped up their search for a new right-back by reportedly making a bid for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims United’s offer for the 21-year-old is ‘substantial’, though the exact amount is unknown.
Having made his first team debut in February 2018, Wan-Bissaka appeared as a regular starter throughout the 2018/19 season where his consistency saw him win Palace’s Player of the Season award.
Understandably, Palace are reluctant to let such a highly rated young player leave the club. With three years left on his current contract, it’s likely United will have to improve their initial offer in order to persuade them to sell.
United’s desire to strengthen at right back this summer has been widely reported. Though they only signed young Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot a year ago, Ashley Young, who turns 34 later this summer, appeared most frequently in the position throughout the 2018/19 season.
Antonio Valencia – a regular at right-back since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson six years ago – has also been released by the club this summer.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also believed to be looking to sign a central defender, a defensive midfielder and another forward, United do appear to have tied up a deal for Swansea’s Daniel James.
The winger, who featured for Wales during their defeat to Croatia on Saturday, underwent a medical at the club’s AON Training Complex last week and it was announced on Saturday that an agreement had been reached in principle.
