Manchester United are ‘seriously considering’ sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Solskjaer has survived some real low points during his time as United manager, including an embarrassing 6-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last season, compounded by the fact that his predecessor Jose Mourinho was in charge of Spurs at the time.

And the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday appears to be the final straw for United’s board, who have shown incredible patience/ambivalence until this point.

United were outclassed in every aspect of the game by their arch-rivals on Sunday, as Solskajer’s tactical naivety was exposed in brutal fashion.

MEN also report that United’s players were kept inside Old Trafford for two hours following Sunday’s defeat, presumably receiving a pound shop version of Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous hairdryer treatment.

A second place finish last season afforded Solskjaer more time in charge but his side have gone backwards this season, despite the arrival of three big name signings.

The manager has attempted to evolve their tactical style, but in doing so has reached a tactical ceiling that he is unlikely to overcome in the short term.

Reports also claim United’s players are losing faith in their coach, after picking up just one point in their last four league games, with many said to be questioning the manager’s tactics and selection decisions this season while away on international duty.

The writing is on the wall for Ole. It now seems like a matter of time before the club relieve him of his duties.
