Manchester United emergency meeting ends with decision to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Au revoir, Ole.

Manchester United have come to the decision to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following their 4-1 loss to Watford on Saturday afternoon, reports The Times.

The club’s board held an emergency meeting via video link after the defeat at Vicarage Road, their fourth defeat in their last five Premier League matches.

Reports suggest there were still some high profile voices at the club reluctant to sack the Norwegian, but after a series of humiliating defeats, Solskjaer’s position has become untenable.

The decision to sack Solskjaer ultimately lay with Joel Glazer, while the task of hiring a new manager will now be given to Richard Arnold, a director at the club.

With Antonio Conte now at Tottenham Hotspur, and Mauricio Pochettino seemingly staying at Paris Saint-Germain for the time being, United are reportedly turning their heads towards Zinedine Zidane.

The former Real Madrid manager, who won three consecutive Champions League trophies with Los Blancos, has been out of a job since the summer, when he departed Madrid for the second time and was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti, returning for his second spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

United are also reportedly leaning on the charm of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, who played under Zidane at Madrid, to convince the Frenchman to take the job.
