Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo will not play again this season.
Both players sustained knee ligament damage in separate incidents during Manchester United’s Europa League quarter final with Anderlecht on Thursday night.
With Phil Jones and Chris Smalling already missing through injury, the loss of Rojo means that the only first choice central defenders available to Jose Mourinho are Eric Bailly and Daley Blind. As for Ibrahimovic, who has yet to extend his deal with United beyond the end of the season, there are concerns that the injury could be enough to bring to an end his time with the club entirely – not just his season.
Keen to show that their thoughts are with the injured pair, United’s players were seen wearing shirts with their names on the back as they warmed up ahead of the game with Burnley at Turf Moor.
A nice gesture, some might think… but not many of those who had an opinion on it on Twitter. Only weeks after Manchester City’s players were mocked for doing something similar for Ilkay Gündogan in the aftermath of his season-ending knee injury, the reaction was perhaps inevitable…

If someone could forward on the funeral arrangements for Ibrahimovic and Rojo, that'd be great.
Would love to attend.

The RIP Rojo and Ibrahimovic theme continued after Anthony Martial gave them an early lead, too…
