Manchester United have confirmed that they have released a total of eight players ahead of the new season.

Several Premier League clubs issued their annual released and retained lists on Friday afternoon and the Red Devils have announced that they’ve parted ways with plenty of youngsters.

Michael Carrick is the only established first-team player to be released but he has already taken up a role on Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff.

The rest of the list is made up of U23 players and academy products.

Young goalkeeper Max Johnstone has been let go while defender Joe Riley, who made two senior appearances for the club in the 2016/17 season, has already agreed a deal with Bradford City after seeing his time at United come to an end.

Devonte Redmond, Theo Richardson, Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui, Jake Kenyon and Charlie Scott make up the rest of the list.

United also revealed that seven players have been offered new contracts but have yet to sign, with Marouane Fellaini the most high-profile name.

Fellaini’s deal with the Red Devils expires at the end of the month and the Belgian midfielder has been linked with a move to rivals Arsenal. It is now up to the player to accept United’s terms or leave for free after the World Cup.

England U21 goalkeeper Dean Henderson has also been offered the opportunity to stay at the club, as well as Indy Boonen, Zachary Dearnley, Ethan Hamilton, Tosin Kehinde and Callum Whelan.

Juan Mata, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young have all seen their deals extended by one year after the club decided to trigger the option to keep hold of the quartet.
