Man United presented with opportunity to get Man City star they missed out on, three years ago

Grealish has been at the Etihad Stadium since 2021, signing a six-year deal and was instrumental in last year’s Treble-winning campaign but has found this season much more difficult, struggling with form and injuries.

The 28-year-old signed for £100m at the time, making him the most expensive English signing ever but could be one of those City look to move on as they prepare to strengthen their squad even further.

According to HITC, the former Aston Villa man’s lack of progress is another reason behind their decision to weigh up whether to keep him or not.

Who would Man City look to replace Grealish with?

The report adds that City have previous interest in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Napoli and may opt to reignite that again.

Dubbed ‘Kvaradona’ by the Naples faithful, the Georgian winger was one of Europe’s standout players last season as Napoli won their first Scudetto in over 30 years.

Although this year hasn’t been as electric as the last, the winger still has 10 goals in Serie A and has previously been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United.

ESPN have said that Napoli would allegedly demand in the region of £85m and his agent even said that a departure can’t be ruled out.

“As regards the future, we are talking with the club. We will see what will happen,” he said.

“He will leave if Napoli receive an offer that they can’t refuse.

“I can’t talk about a specific amount. These are (president Aurelio) De Laurentiis’s assessments. Everything will be clear at the end of May.”

Where would Grealish go?

This is probably the hardest thing to decide. As talented as he is, options may be limited.

Given he is an England regular, Man City would want to recoup as much of the £100m fee as they possibly could. Furthermore, Grealish himself would want close to his rumoured £300,000 a week salary.

Once upon a time Manchester United were very interested in Grealish but times have changed, new plans are in place at United and perhaps most crucially, it’s unlikely City would sell to their neighbours down the road.

Other big name clubs in England aren’t exactly viable options either. For the same reasons stated above, Arsenal and Liverpool are ruled out of contention. 

Going abroad would probably be the most likely outcome but again, where?

Whether they sell him or not is another thing – the likelihood is they won’t as he has been an important player in Guardiola’s squad – but if they choose to, it won’t be easy.
