Glazer family could sell minority stake in Man United

The Glazer family are reportedly willing to sell a minority stake in Manchester United as pressure from supporters mounts over their handling of the club. Bloomberg have reported that preliminary discussions have been held over the possibility of bringing new investment into the club while The Independent have said that a bid in the region of $6bn would be enough for them to sell their entire stake in the club. Any deal would likely become the biggest takeover in global sporting history and would likely take place in the next year to 24 months. Discussions remain ongoing at this point, however, there is no guarantee that the family will sell a small stake in the Red Devils. Those parties interested in making a bid have asked to remain anonymous. Elon Musk claimed on Wednesday he was going to "buy Manchester United" before later confessing it was a joke. Malcolm Glazer initially bought the club in 2005, using loans to take control, and although the early days of the family's tenure coincided with success under Sir Alex Ferguson, fans have been at war with the owners for the duration of their 17 years in control. As well as a major overhaul of the playing squad, United's stadium, Old Trafford, is in need of modernising, as is the case with the club's training complex, which has fallen behind the facilities used by rival clubs. Further protests have been planned ahead of their Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Monday after Erik ten Hag's side started the season with two defeats from two against Brighton and Brentford.
