Manchester United are expected to invest in their defence before next season.
Jose Mourinho recently revealed that he had no plans to buy any attacking players in the summer, and his struggles to find a settled centre back pairing means he’s likely to bring in at least one defender to Old Trafford ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
Could Toby Alderweireld be the answer? Well, according to a report on Friday, perhaps so.
The Belgian international, who has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League in recent years, is yet to agree a new contract at White Hart Lane/ Wembley. Now, a report in The Times claim Spurs are open to selling Alderweireld as discussions about a new deal stall.
The 28-year-old is thought to have asked for an improved deal of around £150,000-a-week. Daniel Levy is thought to have rejected this, leaving the club to explore the possibility of selling him – a decision backed by Mauricio Pochettino.
Many United supporters have recently vented their frustrations over high-profile errors from Chris Smalling and Phil Jones. With this in mind, their reaction to the news Alderweireld might be available hardly came as a surprise…

I'll take Alderweireld at United. At least one Centre Half must be the priority this summer #MUFC
