The former Espanyol and Barcelona attacker was man of the match in the recent Under-21 European Championships final.
Reports in Portugal claim Manchester United have been repelled, by Sporting Lisbon, after making an opening bid of £31 million for Bruno Fernandes. United are looking at bringing in more ‘exciting players’ before the season starts and Daniel Olmo Carvajal fits that billing.
Carvajal, who turned 21 in May, was one of the best Spanish players on show at the European Championships as they reached the final before dispatching Germany to claim silverware.
The Dinamo Zagreb player scored three goals [including the strike against Belgium, below] and had an assist, during the championship, and his performances put him on radars for a lot of big clubs.

United look to be the first side to register a firm interest with Dinamo, the player and his agent Andy Bar, who told Sportske Novosti, “At this point, I can not comment on that.” The Croatian sports outlet reports that Bar will usually give a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer when contacted about moves so by offering up a ‘no comment’, there appears to be genuine interest in the Spaniard.
United have reportedly put together a bid of €40m for Daniel Olmo Carvajal, who joined Zagreb from Barca in 2015. After making six senior appearances in his first two seasons in Croatia, Carvajal has been a regular in the first team for three seasons and has improved each time out, scoring 12 times in 44 games in 2018/19 and winning the accolade for the league’s best player.
The time is ripe for the attacking talent to make a move to one of Europe’s top leagues. United are unable to offer Champions League football next season but Carvajal may buy into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan of getting in top young talents to complement the likes of Paul Pogba, David De Gea, Anthony Martial and more.
Sportske Novosti claim ‘serious talks will start today’ between United, Zagreb and Carvajal’s representatives. Given that the likes of Inter, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen and Milan have all expressed an interest in the player, United may want to stump up the €40m to get the deal over the line as quickly as possible.
