Manchester City participating in one of social media’s creepiest trends has infuriated fans

Whoever runs Manchester City’s Twitter account may be one of the most despised club villains after sending one-word, one-hashtag tweet on Friday.

Ahead of City’s Premier League clash against West Bromwich at the Hawthorns on Saturday, Leroy Sane sent a very enthusiastic tweet.

The German youngster was clearly pumped for the big game and wanted the world to know his side would be aiming get back in the win column following their cup loss to Manchester United on Wednesday.

Sane didn’t tag his club in the tweet, he didn’t really phrase in the way that it would warrant a response, but that didn’t stop City from finding it, replying and causing their hordes of followers online to cringe.

Creepy, right?

This trend of referring to celebrities as Dad or Mom stems from the (one of the) time (s) Kim Kardashian let her arse hang out on Instagram in an effort to “break the internet”. Although she failed at her task, managing to only dent the internet slightly, she did manage to inadvertently start this bizarre trend.

Someone called ‘Lorde,’ who I’ve been told is very famous, replied to her viral mooning with the word ‘Mom,’ and the hideous cycle that will undoubtedly lead to our demise began.

As you can imagine, there is not a lot of crossover between football fans and the type of people Lorde enthusiasts. Therefore you can probably already guess that the reaction has been one of embarrassment from City supporters.
