Four big clubs in the mix as Lukaku reportedly considers Man United exit

Simon Lloyd

Another day, another report about a Manchester United player being shown the door.

Romelu Lukaku is the latest Manchester United player to be linked with a departure this summer.

It’s been widely reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer intends to overhaul his squad in time for new season, and while that might involve several high-profile arrivals, there’s also expected to be a few departures from Old Trafford in the months ahead.

Already, Ander Herrera looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain after failing to renew his contract. Juan Mata and Antonio Valencia also appear poised to move on with their own deals due to expire. Added to this, there’s been talk of Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and the misfiring Alexis Sanchez being sold.

Now, according to James Ducker in the Telegraph, Lukaku may also depart.

The Belgium international, who joined United from Everton in 2017, is said to be open to the idea of leaving this summer with the club willing to listen to offers for him.

Paris Saint-Germain – who Lukaku scored twice against in March – are interested in him, along with Inter Milan and Bayern Munich. Interestingly, as the report also points out, Antonio Conte, who is being linked with a return to Juventus, is also an admirer of the 25-year-old having tried to sign him for Chelsea.

Lukaku is expected to be in the squad when United travel to face his old club Everton on Sunday afternoon. He is not, however, guaranteed a starting berth, a factor behind his openness to leave.

United would expect to recoup a considerable fee for Lukaku. This, along with his £255,000-a-week wages, could scupper any chances of him finding a move away.
