Luiz Felipe in tears after bizarre red card after full-time whistle

One of the strangest full-time events you will see

Lazio’s Luiz Felipe was shown a bizarre red card after his side’s 3-1 win against Inter Milan following an altercation with Inter player and former teammate Joaquin Correa, which left the Brazilian in tears.

The full-time whistle had just blown after Lazio had managed to secure the win over last season’s Series A champions and former manager Simone Inzaghi, with the game a feisty occasion after referee Massimiliano Irrati had handed out six yellow cards in a tense eight-minute spell.

Things boiled over at the Stadio Olimpico after the game as well as Felipe seemingly went over to Correa – who is on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy – and appeared to jump on the Argentinian, who didn’t take to the act warmly.

Instead the winger reacted back by shaking off the defender and pushing him away – clearly not seeing the funny side.

The interaction then started a brawl between both sets of players as tempers began to flare with the Inter players showing their displeasure. In the chaos, referee Irrati showed Felipe a straight red card for his actions.

What happened next was extremely bizarre as Felipe – clearly confused – protested that he was only trying to have a laugh which had been misinterpreted.

So distraught by what had happened, the Lazio man was seen walking away from the scene in tears.

Felipe is now inevitably going to be serving a suspension for the red card, but hopefully he will have learnt his lesson – whatever the lesson was – when the two teams face each other again.
