Luis Suarez is chasing a treble in Barcelona but a part of his heart is still in Anfield.

The Uruguayan superstar could be a league champion in Spain tomorrow but he was checking in with his old club today for Steven Gerrard’s Anfield bow.

And the former Liverpool hotshot, who spent three years with the club under the captaincy of Stevie G, paid a lovely tribute to his friend, the legendary ‘Pool number eight, and one who he described as ‘one of the greatest.’

Whilst Suarez was in England, he was always being touted for a big-money move and he even nearly switched to Arsenal in 2013. But he said that it was Gerrard who convinced him to stay on at Anfield and the pair almost inspired the club to their first Premier League title last season.

Suarez eventually moved on to spearhead the Barcelona attack in the summer but he still has a close bond with the north west of England and he was back in March for the charity match to play on Gerrard’s side once more.

And he took to social media to pay homage to Liverpool’s leader who played his last game at home for his boyhood club today.
