Luis Suarez is being linked with a move to Manchester United (yes, that Manchester United)

This would go down as the most unlikely transfer of all time

In football anything is possible

Luis Suarez has had a difficult start to life in Barcelona.

For a start he was banned for mistaking Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder for a delicious pulled pork sandwich.

But since his return, he has found goals hard to come by and has probably realised by now that the club he has joined are in turmoil.

Lionel Messi is supposedly at loggerheads with coach Luis Enrique (there are well-sourced reports that ultimatums have been issued along the lines of ‘either he goes or I go’) and Barca are now bringing forward their presidential election in a bid to bring some harmony to the place that has more rows going on than an episode of Fair City.

Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, the man often held responsible for championing the signing of Suarez, was booted out the door earlier this week and there is now a report from the Daily Mail’s Neil Ashton that Suarez may follow him in the summer.

While that may seem scarcely believable the next bit is the real kicker: Ashton reckons Manchester United will be one of the clubs keeping a close eye on developments at the Nou Camp over the next few months. Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City may well also be interested.

If Suarez was to leave, it’s not impossible to imagine that he would return to the Premier League but surely not to Old Trafford? Not after everything that has gone on.
