Louis van Gaal ‘to discuss’ new deal to extend stay at Manchester United

Good timing

Ryan Giggs will have to wait.

Louis van Gaal is open to discussing a contract extension at Old Trafford, according to reports this morning.

The Manchester United manager had been expected to retire when his contract runs out in the summer of 2017.

But, in the wake of yesterday’s 3-1 victory over arch rivals Liverpool, the Dutchman is willing to open talks over a new contract in the New Year, according to the Daily Star.

The news is sure to be received with interest in the United dressing-room, with speculation that several players are unhappy with Van Gaal’s training methods and rigid playing style, while Red Devils’ legend Ryan Giggs, named by the manager as his preferred successor last week, would face a much longer wait before his ascension to the top job.
