Louis van Gaal pulls out smart alec fact to claim Harry Kane isn’t as good as Wayne Rooney

Kevin McGillicuddy

What’s that line about lies, damn lies and statistics?

Maybe there isn’t a Dutch translation for Louis van Gaal, but regardless, he’s made a pretty preposterous claim about the talents of the currently crocked Wayne Rooney, and the in-form Harry Kane.

The Manchester United striker is still some weeks away from fitness, while Kane is banging in goals all over the place ahead of this Sunday’s clash between both clubs.

Kane has been a key part of Tottenham’s title push this term, and is likely to be England’s key striker at this summer’s European championships.

However, Louis van Gaal feels because he has failed to do one little thing, he is inferior to Wayne Rooney.

“Kane is of course a very good striker but he hasn’t scored yet against us.

“I cannot remember that he scored. When I say that I am challenging him also, so it’s not so smart of me.

“But we are never defending one player. We defend the attack of Tottenham.”

We’re not superstitious, but if that’s not tempting fate for Kane to grab a hat-trick in front of the Dutchman, we don’t know what is.

We’ll just leave this here.

And this.
