Louis van Gaal may have let slip who will succeed him at Manchester United

It had to be him

Is anyone surprised?

Louis van Gaal has reportedly said that Ryan Giggs will succeed him as Manchester United manager, at an event attended by the pair in Manchester earlier this evening.

Giggs is United’s assistant manager, and was interim boss following David Moyes’ sacking in April 2014, before Van Gaal took permanent charge following the World Cup campaign with The Netherlands. The former Welsh international won two of his four games in charge.

It was widely believed that Giggs would succeed Van Gaal when the 64 year old retires, possibly at the end of the 2016/17 Premier League season, and Van Gaal has reportedly confirmed United’s continuity plans when discussing new signing Anthony Martial.

The United manager conceded that the 19 year old’s reported £35 million transfer fee was expensive, but revealed why he was so prepared to sign the player.

“Yes I spend a lot of money on Martial, but I buy him for my successor …. Ryan Giggs,” Van Gaal reportedly said.

Twitter user Andrew Curran posted the above image from the event.

Would you be happy if Giggs were to succeed Van Gaal, Manchester United fans?
